In Year 1, the children explored wheels, axles, and axle holders through a hands-on design and technology activity. Working in pairs, they used these components to build simple chassis models, sparking excitement and curiosity throughout the classroom.
Pupils experimented with different ways to attach wheels and axles securely, carefully testing their creations to ensure the wheels turned smoothly. Through trial and error, they discovered how axle holders helped keep the axles in place and improved the movement of their models.
This engaging activity encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and a deeper understanding of how things move in the world around them — laying a strong foundation for future learning in mechanics and design.
