In their recent D&T lesson, Year 1 pupils explored how vehicles move, focusing on the role of wheels and axles.

The children identified the mechanism that allows a toy or vehicle to roll forwards and learned that, for a wheel to move, it must be attached to an axle.

By the end of the lesson, pupils were confident using the key vocabulary: wheel, axle and axle holder. They demonstrated a clear understanding of how these parts work together to enable movement.
