Year 5 Investigates Air Resistance with Parachute Experiment

Please enter an introduction for your news story here.

This week, Year 5 put their new scientific knowledge about air resistance to the test in a practical investigation. Pupils designed and made parachutes of different, carefully measured sizes, then timed how long each one took to reach the ground.

Through this hands-on experiment, they explored the enquiry question: What is the relationship between surface area and air resistance? By comparing results, pupils were able to draw conclusions about how parachute size affects the speed of descent.

It was a fantastic opportunity to apply scientific thinking and data collection skills — and perhaps you could ask them at home what they discovered!
