In Year Five we will be learning lots of new and wonderful things.
In Talk for Writing, we will be learning how to write a Warning tale using Pie Corbett’s The Caravan, then a set of instructions entitled ‘How to keep a dragon amused’. In Autumn 2, we will be writing Wishing tales based on the Trojan horse and an explanation text entitled ‘How a battle decoy works’.
Before Christmas, we will study Twas the Night Before Christmas by Charles Dickens.
In Reading lessons we will be exploring Myths and Legends with the story of Pandora’s Box. We will also be studying Pie Corbett’s Walking With Unicorns and Monster Poems. In Autumn 2, to help us with our topic work we will use ‘Midas and Greeks- key figurers in Greek Mythology’ texts.
In Maths lessons we will learn about: place value and the four main operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). Then moving onto statistics and measurements.
Our Topic for Autumn term will be Ancient Greeks. Within this topic, we will use a selection of nonfiction and information texts for history and geography. We will also create an exciting project in art and design!
